He is Chair of the Global Advisory Board of the New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association and served as the Chief Reporter for the American Law Institute (ALI) for its Restatement (Third) of the Law of International Arbitration in the United States.
ROBERT H. SMIT is a retired Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York where he concentrated in international arbitration and litigation for over 30 years. He now serves as arbitrator and expert in a wide variety of international arbitrations around the world. Smit is Co-Chair of the ICC Task Force on Production of Electronic Documents in Arbitration, Chair of the Center for Public Resource's (CPR) Arbitration Committee, and Vice-Chair of the International Bar Association's (IBA) Committee on International Arbitration and ADR. His past experience includes formerly serving as a U.S. member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Chair of the New York City Bar Association International Commercial Disputes Committee, and Advisor to the ALI Restatement (Third) of International Arbitration in the United States.
