Practised law as a litigator and a commercial lawyer for 23 years from 1983 to 2006, mostly in Hong Kong and also in Vancouver and Mainland China, before taking up the executive position as Deputy Secretary General (2006-2007) and Secretary General (2008-2011) of the Law Society of Hong Kong. Previous legal appointments include Crown Counsel of the Hong Kong Attorney General’s Chambers in 1983, Associate and Partner of various law firms, including Partner of Fred Kan & Co., Hong Kong Solicitors & Notaries (1999-2006); Associate of Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP, Vancouver, Canada (1992-2006); and Registered Hong Kong Legal Consultant of Shandong Qindao Law Firm, Qingdao, China (2004-2006); and also the judicial appointment as Temporary Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Hong Kong for a period in 2002-2003
Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators since 1999; and Member its Education & Membership Committee in 2004-2006
Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC)
Acted as counsel in commercial and insurance arbitrations since 1999; and as full time arbitrator since 2011. Published at the HKIAC about 10 domain name disputes decisions; and issued awards as sole arbitrator in ad hoc commercial and insurance arbitrations.
