A huge disparity exists within the alternative dispute resolution profession between the number of male and female practitioners. Women constitute a distinct minority, especially in arbitration, though much less in certain types of mediation. In an effort to discover why this is so, the Arbitration Journal interviewed a number of professionals in ADR. No one answer prevailed, but in general it was held that women  encountered certain barriers in the field which should be removed by various types of action.
