The Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of India (hereinafter referred to as the Contracting Parties)

Desirous of creating conditions favorable for fostering greater investment by nationals and companies of either State in the territory of the other State

Recognizing that reciprocal protection of such investments under an agreement will subserve the aforesaid objective and will be conducive to the stimulation of individual business initiative and will increase prosperity in both States
