AU.S. litigator, even one with extensive domestic arbitration experience, will quickly discover in her first international arbitration that she is “not in Kansas anymore.” 

This is not to imply that a previously drab, black-and-white universe will suddenly be transformed into brilliant Technicolor. It underlines the importance of understanding that it would be wrong to expect to encounter the reassuringly familiar landscape of U.S. litigation, or to assume that the very skills that have made you a successful U.S. litigator will be appreciated, or even effective, in international arbitration proceedings
