George Bermann has made an indelible mark on our field – as scholar, a practitioner, and an innovator.  Most importantly, he has served as a steward for the generations that have followed in his footsteps.  He is an educator first and the future will feel his impact long after we are all gone.  For the field that became his home, however, he was and remains a kind of intellectual explorer.  He has helped chart our collective course through unknown ‘twilight issues’ and through his work has drawn a map on what arbitration has become and where it is going. 

This volume is a testament to the maps he has made and the inspiration he has given to others. I particularly like the idea of George as an explorer.  “Exploration” is also a beautiful watchword for us to take to heart as we read the pages that follow – it conjures with it any number of noble and soul-enhancing truths as an individual courageously faces an unknown future while mapping a new path.
