Following a long series of valuable contributions on varying aspects of arbitration, Giorgio Bernini, Professor of Law at the University of Bologna, is currently preparing a definitive work on the subject. To be published shortly in English, the treatise will comprise two volumes, one dealing with Italian arbitration and the other with international arbitration.

In the interim, Professor Bernini has written a book, Lezione di Diritto dell'Arbitrato ("Lessons on the Law of Arbitration"), which focuses on the entire body of Italian law on arbitration, and includes as well a discussion of the international conventions on arbitration insofar as they relate to domestic arbitration law.

The book focuses mostly on contractual aspects of arbitration, but it also deals with fundamental principles governing the nature and role of arbitration, such as the distinction between arbitrato amministrato (administered arbitration) and arbitrato ad hoc (ad hoc arbitration), multi-party arbitration, the consolidation of arbitral proceedings, and the relationship between arbitral and judicial proceedings.
