Who, when acting as arbitrator, has not known this delicious instant when the final award is sent to the parties or to the arbitral institution in charge of notifying it?   The relief is major: the parties, with whom you have shared a piece of their story, leave the scene and will not be your concern anymore; counsel will receive the award and you might perhaps imagine their faces when receiving your decision; you may now anticipate clearing the shelves of your library; you may even, for once, count on the payment of your fees. In short, a case is ended, and this might be the opportunity for another to begin. The event is important enough to justify the opening of a bottle of champagne or fine wine.

Nonetheless, experience shows that, first, things do not move this fast and, second, it becomes increasingly frequent to have to play overtime. This will be the central subject of this Book dedicated to “post award issues”.
