On December 24, 2002, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID or the Centre) received a request for arbitration from Empresas Lucchetti, S.A. and Lucchetti Perú, S.A. against the Republic of Peru. The dispute concerned a pasta factory in the Municipality of Lima and was brought to ICSID under the ICSID Convention. Claimants invoked the dispute settlement provisions of the Bilateral Investment Treaty between the Republic of Peru and the Republic of Chile (the BIT).
