Claimants began mining precious metals in El Salvador in 1968. Between 1987 and early 2006, Claimants expanded their mining and related activities which were regulated by exploration licenses and environmental permits granted by the Government of El Salvador. However, in September/October 2006, the Government revoked Claimants’ environmental permits and did not renew their exploration licenses.
