LEGISLATION, TRENDS AND TENDENCIES No amendments have been proposed to the Japanese Arbitration Law of March 1, 2004 (the “Arbitration Law”).5 The key update in 2013 is the proposed amendments to the commercial arbitration rules (“Rules”) of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA). A.1 Proposed Amendments to the JCAA Rules The JCAA proposed amendments to its Rules on August 2, 2013. The new Rules are expected to take effect in February 2014.
