Legislation, Trends and Tendencies A.1 Bill for a Revised Arbitration Act Passing before Congress On October 1, 2013, a committee of scholars chaired by Justice Luis Felipe Salomão of the Superior Court of Justice submitted to the Federal Senate a proposal with certain changes to the Brazilian Arbitration Act (Law No. 9.307/96). The main changes are the following: • The bill confirms that governmental entities may submit to arbitration patrimonial issues that may be subject to settlement. • The bill authorizes arbitration of employment disputes, but only if the employee is an administrator or statutory officer who brings or otherwise agrees to the arbitration.
