A.1 Australian Arbitral Institutions

There are a number of well-established Australian arbitral

institutions that can facilitate an arbitration seated in Australia.

The premier institution is the Australian Centre for International

Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), which has a presence in

Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and whose members comprise

many of Australia’s leading experts in the field of international

commercial arbitration. ACICA has its own set of procedural

rules, which have recently been amended to enable parties to

seek interim measures to assist their arbitration even before

proceedings have commenced.5 The Australian International

Disputes Centre (AIDC) in Sydney houses ACICA and offers

rooms for arbitration hearings. A new Commercial Arbitration

and Mediation Centre is to be established in Melbourne in March

2014.6
