With the new millennium looming on the horizon and dire predictions of a worldwide computer crash circulating, it’s important for
the ADR community to be aware of the issues involved and the role it might play in the near future.

The American Arbitration Association, for one, has formed a national Technology Advisory Committee to examine its rules and
services in relation to the “millennium bug” or the so-called Y2K problem. As part of the AAA’s initiative to address the problem,
its Philadelphia regional office has also formed an advisory committee to make recommendations on how ADR may be used for fair
and equitable resolution of technology-related disputes.

The following section focuses on the Y2K problem. It includes two feature articles and a sidebar to help readers understand the
issues and define the role of ADR in resolving disputes that are anticipated with the approach of the year 2000.
