I. Introduction

The Paris Arbitration Rules (the “Rules” or “Paris Rules”) were launched on 15 April 2013 at an event attended by leading Paris arbitration practitioners. While released by “Paris, the Home of International Arbitration” the Rules are not intended to be used only for arbitrations seated in Paris.1 Indeed, the neutrality of the Paris Rules means that they can be used in arbitrations worldwide.

The first draft of Rules was prepared by Philippe Pinsolle and Michael Polkinghorne, two Paris-based lawyers in international law firms. The draft was then reviewed and amended by the Board of “Paris, the Home of International Arbitration” before their promulgation. Brooks Daly, Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (“PCA”) in The Hague, also provided valuable input on the Rules.
