The cultural milieu of the American workplace has undergone significant changes in recent years and more transformations are on the way. This is evident not only in terms of changing social mores in general, but because of increasing numbers of women as well as African-American, Hispanic and other third-world people in the work force. Typical white, male, middle-class attitudes and ways of interpreting work relations are being challenged. Such a situation presents a challenge to professional arbitrators, who must seek to bring a sophisticated understanding of this "new diversity" to the task of resolving disputes.
