Over the past decade, third country international arbitration in Sweden has become an important option for disputing parties. For this reason, many contracts call for arbitration under the rules of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC).

In order to best meet the needs of international parties, the sec spent 15 months studying and revising its arbitration procedures; the new rules became effective on January 1, 1988. This article discusses the important characteristics and provisions of the 1988 SCC Rules and informs parties about what to expect should they choose to arbitrate under these rules.
