There is widening recognition that a good portion of the business litigation that is consuming executive time and corporate dollars can be resolved more quickly and at lower cost through alternative dispute resolution (ADR). In a poll of 400 senior executives conducted by Business Week magazine, for example, 97% favored the usc of ADR methods. Not least of the factors influencing their thinking is the fact that their companies' foreign competitors are not burdened by the "litigation overhead" that U.S. businesses bear. This article will focus on the role that CPAs may play in the ADR process.
